The crime rate in Bogota appears to be uncontrolled. The constant theft of vehicles is a crime committed in different ways, and is added to the many cases of assaults on people who are walking the streets.
Two thieves have been exposed in one recent case when they attempted to steal a car parked in the Boyaca Real district, near the town of Engativa.
The images captured by the security cameras reveal the criminals to be walking around the car without raising suspicion. Once they realized that there were no occupants in the vehicle and it was unattended, the criminals stopped the vehicle and waited until the right moment came to open the door.
The thieves entered the car to search for items of value that they could steal, and their accomplice remained to the side, to keep an eye on things, to alert them if there were any problems. However, the neighbors realized this fact, but did not act.
The citizen, armed with only a stick and crossing the street as soon as the criminal got out, went up to the two offenders. They had to flee when they saw the reaction of the citizen.
Owner of car said that criminals would identify unattended cars on streets, and then use so-called universal remote controls to open them. They could loot or take the vehicles.
