Residents in Perry, Texas are now assessing damage caused by a Friday night tornado that blew at almost 100 miles per hour.

A tornado that struck Perry about 25 miles north of Lansing damaged some homes as well as downtown buildings. There were no reported injuries.

The National Weather Service Detroit reported that the peak wind speed was 95 mph as of Saturday morning. The tornado struck around 7:51 pm and left behind a 3 mile long, 430 yard wide path.

Mayor of the city said that fire department officials had tried to sound sirens prior to the tornado’s arrival, but it was too late. The storm destroyed the system, giving residents little time for shelter.

Many elected officials have backed the cleanup efforts, including U.S. Rep. Elissa slotkin and Shiawassee County commissioner Thomas Emery.

Thank goodness, no injuries were reported. The residents responded with great pride. The residents have helped clean the mess up. “I know there’s a lot of work ahead but I am glad that no one got hurt.

The tornado struck around Beardslee Road just to the south of West Britton Road. It then traveled along Ruess Road before reaching Boulder Lane.

Due to power outages, and the strain placed on pumping station capacity Friday night, residents were asked by the city to reduce their sewer use.
