LEASEHOLDER accuses a firm that manages property of “massively being incompetent”, after his tenant was forced to leave her apartment due to mould.
Alan Stonelake pays PS200 per month for the maintenance of a tower road flat in Bournemouth.
In the summer, however, it was said that he needed to repair the leaky roof because mould had started growing.
The Sovereign employee said that they refused to pay the repairs and suggested instead that the excess of PS100 on their building insurance could be used.
Deolinda Rodrguez, 49, had to live with her daughter, Parkstone in Poole, because she was his tenant.
Alan: “The mold has grown across the half of the ceiling. It’s now on the wall and it is peeling.”
It’s unfair to her that she had to leave her home and move in with her child. She declined my offer to pay to have her stay at a Travelodge.
It could take up to six weeks for the flat to be completed.
Alan is paying PS200 per week for a dehumidifier, including electricity.
Deolinda has been charged a monthly rent of around PS680. He stopped paying Sovereign’s PS200 fee.
Alan now wants “to let the public know how Sovereign is”.
Then he added, “It was a building issue. It was allegedly a Sovereign problem.”
The CEO didn’t reply to my letter, but I received an email explaining that it was the department of complaints. Every time I call someone I am passed around.
Deolinda is a Portuguese chef who said that the damp and mould has worsened her asthma and has left her with no choice but to leave.
She continued: “Alan helped me in everything, and I cannot say anything bad about him. This would not have been an issue if it had been fixed before winter.
It’s worse because we’ve had so much rain.
Sovereign told the Echo that it had fixed the leak as soon as they became aware.
The spokesperson said: “We’re contacting our customers to apologize and arrange for an assessment of the damp in their home next week so we can fix any damage.”
We have offered to pay for their dehumidifier.
