In the midst of the worsening national rental crisis, a property manager shared the moment when she had to help a tenant leave a home.
Ashleigh Goodchild (perthpropertymanager) had to evict a tenant for a TikTok client, as he would have been ‘homeless if the house owner didn’t regain possession.
She captioned her video with a crying emoticon, stating, “Watch until the end to find out what I did when I entered the property.”
The video begins with Ms Goodchild standing in front of the rental.
The tenant is in default. We’ve done the best that we could.
She explained, “I’m waiting for the lock to open and I can see inside.”
She said that she didn’t know what she would find when she entered, but she hoped she had found all the furniture because a cleaning service had already been scheduled.
‘So, fingers crossed. She said, ‘Come join me.
After the encounter, Ms Goodchild returns to her office visibly upset.
She said, ‘That’s one of the most difficult things I have ever done.
She added that she had not expected to see the tenant still at home.
She said, ‘I talked to her and sat down with her, trying to ease her fears about the upcoming event.
“I helped her to pack up her things and, after two hours of packing and moving her around the house and property.
“It was not nice but it’s my job, I did it.”
Even though it was not very polite, the manager of the property sympathized that she would be fine.
“I knew I had done what was right for her emotionally, as much as I could,” Ms Goodchild said, calling the incident a “little speed bump” in the life of the tenant.
The interaction was praised by social media users, as well as Ms Goodchild’s kindness towards the tenant in the face of a worsening housing crisis.
The times are tough. One pay cheque can make many people homeless. Living paycheck to payday. One person wrote, “She will always remember your kindness.”
A second user said, “You showed compassion, and you sat down with her to listen.”
