Westport police reported that the Aston Martin was located after it had been stolen by a man in Berlin and 16-years-old.
Around 3:50pm on Sunday, the Westport carjacking occurred. Police released two video clips that show two masked thieves as they enter the Westport garage. They then pull the driver of the luxury vehicle from it and steal the car.
Police have recovered four stolen automobiles from a Berlin property. These include the Aston Martin that was used during the Westport carjacking and a BMW 530i stolen in Westport in September.
The Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force detained 39-year-old Derek McGill. He lives in Berlin, where the stolen vehicles were discovered, and he has no charges currently pending against him, Westport authorities said.
McGill, who is currently being held under $250,000 bail, has been accused of four counts of first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, theft of payment cards and illegal operation at a chopshop.
The police carried out a search at an address in Waterbury, Connecticut on Tuesday. There they found a firearm with a magazine that was extended.
Westport police arrested a resident, 16, who lives in the house. They found evidence that linked him to the carjacking.
He has been charged with strangulation and robbery.
A police report said that the BMW was stolen on September 16 and used for the carjacking. Police charged him with first-degree larceny and taking an illegal payment card.
Westport Detectives stated that they would seek an order detaining the child and if this is granted, it will be sent to Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.
According to a police statement, “using technology, inter-departmental coordination, and old-fashioned cop work, the Detective Bureau along with Bridgeport Auto-theft Task Force made rapid progress in the investigation that resulted in arresting one of the suspected less than a 36-hour period after the accident occurred,” said Chief Foti.
