Placer County hopes that their community will rally around to help repair an historic community center.
Since the 1800s, the Dutch Flat Community Center has played a major role in the life of the local community. According to Dutch Flat Community Club, the grounds of this building once housed a one-room, single-story school, built in 1859. In 1875, a new school was constructed on the site. It had two stories.
The Dutch Flat website describes the building as part of the history of the town.
The 60-year old roof suffered damage due to the 8-foot snowfall that fell during the winter storms. There are places where the roof shines in daylight that could potentially collapse.

Glassco took CBS13 inside the Center, pointing out the original floor, windows and other features. Original classrooms and gyms have been converted into gathering places for the community. The second-floor conference room is larger.
Glassco pointed to the walls painted white that appeared to buckle on one side. Glassco said that the water leakage was caused by the historic winter storms.
There are buckets in the attic that hold water from rain. The time has come. Glassco said, “If we don’t get it done this year, the building could be lost.”
A newly launched fundraising campaign for roof repairs is motivated by the fear of losing history, including outdoor meeting and sports spaces. Repairing the roof, and not replacing it, will cost $25,000 Glassco says that the cost goes up when you include walls, weather damages, and other improvements.
